Additional Terms For All Service Packages

Services Packages are offered by DataStax and are designed to provide each Customer with the most common needs with regards to its use of DataStax Products. Services Packages may include individual Consulting Days provided on a time and materials (T&M) basis or a bundle of Services.   Except for the Strategic Services Program Package described below, Customer shall procure Service packages  identified in the applicable Order Schedule by utilizing the number of Consulting Days designated in the Order Schedule.  DataStax cannot guarantee that all of the recommendations, goals or objectives listed below will be completed during the time allotted.   DataStax will provide a separate proposal for any additional time required to complete any  outstanding tasks.

(DataStax Dojo)

The DataStax Dojo (Project & Developer Acceleration) includes multiple touchpoints of different types to remove barriers to organizational adoption and accelerate development. It includes a combination of Office Hours, Workshops, Developer Days and Hackathons  based on tier.


  • Office Hours are designed to provide an ask me anything forum to help developers and application architects learn best practices and get assistance designing, building and deploying applications utilizing Apache Cassandra and DataStax technologies. 
  • Workshops are designed for applied solution development and execution on new aspects of cloud native applications to build confidence and knowledge on known enterprise issues. 
  • Developer Days are designed specifically for Developers to understand how to build zero downtime, elastically scalable applications and have fun while doing it. 
  • Hackathons are designed as a place to apply knowledge and ideas in a fun and safe sandbox to prototype solutions for known Enterprise opportunities.

Health / Data Model / Integration Checks

A Technical Services Lead and Designated Solutions Architect will work with your team to provide a comprehensive overview of the health of your environment, data model and integrations and provide recommendations for optimization. Our experts will review your database configuration, deployment topology, underlying infrastructure, highlight important settings, and recommend improvements and best practices for growth and performance. We will review features such as:

  • Cassandra logs 
  • Cassandra configuration files 
  • Output from Cassandra nodetool diagnostics 
  • Various operating system diagnostics 
  • Schema 
  • JMX metrics

Scope

  • Collect environment data
    • CQL Schema and description of key tables and applications
    • Execute collector script and retrieve data

Architecture and Security Assessment and Remediation

A Technical Services Lead and Designated Solutions Architect will work with your team to provide guidance and best practices recommendations for application architecture, infrastructure design, network design, and security design through a series of workshops to ensure the architecture is right-sized to meet the enterprise’s current and future business needs.


Scope

  • Review delivered at a mutually agreed time during subscription term
  • Items typically included in the review are:
    • Architectural Strategy Session 
      • 4 x 4-hour architecture meetings to discuss:
        • Enterprise architecture and integration prerequisites and requirements (e.g. - throughput, security, access and authorization, latency, recovery)
        • Hybrid cloud and infrastructure-as-a-service strategy across on-premises, co-location, and/or public cloud provider
        • Hot, cold, and archive storage strategies for supported use cases
      • Goal: Architectural transformation outcomes defined, and understood to assist in creating the reference architecture document
    • Develop DataStax Enterprise reference architecture artifact for a single architecture with up to 2 use cases:
      • Infrastructure and enterprise architecture prerequisites (to include security)
      • User roles and authorizations
      • Hot, cold, and archive storage strategies
      • Backup and recovery strategies
      • Disaster avoidance, global data center (DC) design, and hybrid cloud recommendations 
      • Conduct knowledge transfer of the customer’s Data reference architecture
      • Goal: A delivered reference architecture document providing clear best practice guidance for Customer’s  use case and the architectural needs

Application Release and Upgrade Planning

A Technical Services Lead and Designated Solutions Architect will work with your team regarding release and upgrade plans.   This will include a discussion of the current environment state, features and benefits available via version or feature upgrades, and potential upgrade paths and approaches.

Architecture Strategy and Planning

A Technical Services Lead and Designated Solutions Architect will work with your team to discuss relevant strategic architecture alternatives and goals based on overall business and IT priorities. 


Scope

    • Cloud-native. Modern data architectures are designed to support elastic scaling, high availability, end-to-end security for data in motion and data at rest, and cost and performance scalability.
    • Scalable data pipelines. To take advantage of emerging technologies, data architectures support real-time data streaming and micro-batch data bursts.
    • Seamless data integration. Data architectures integrate with legacy applications using standard API interfaces. They are optimized for sharing data across systems, geographies, and organizations.
    • Real-time data enablement. Modern data architectures support the ability to deploy automated and active data validation, classification, management, and governance.
    • Decoupled and extensible. Modern data architectures are designed to be loosely coupled, enabling services to perform minimal tasks independent of other services.
    • Goal: Architectural Strategy better understood and high-level plan created/updated

Strategic Reviews

Technical Services Lead will work with the wider DataStax organization to plan and schedule the review that may include representatives from DataStax’s Services, Engineering, Product Management, or Technical Support teams.


Scope

Training Assessment

Assess training level of staff and recommend relevant DataStax Academy training and certifications.

  • Annual training assessment
  • Meet with relevant operations and development  teams to assess skill levels, knowledge gaps, and skills development priorities
  • Identify appropriate DataStax Academy training and certifications
  • Identify appropriate instructor led training depending on subscription level

Elevation Training and Certifications

Provide instructor led training sessions on fundamentals and new capabilities. Guidance from a training coach on best available training paths and courses give objectives.


Scope

  • Periodic instructor led training sessions
  • Certification exams
  • Training coach recommendations

Customer Responsibilities

Customer will:

  • Assign a designated person from Customer’s staff who will be readily available as a point of contact, and is authorized to grant all approvals and provide necessary information
  • Assist DataStax in facilitating the delivery of the SSP Package;
  • Provide an engineer (who has administrative access to all relevant systems) to work with the Designated Solutions Architect or Technical Services Lead.

Customer Requirements

Customer must have an active, current AstraDB account or paid DataStax software license with technical support in order to purchase an SSP Package subscription.

Service Limitations

  • The number of clusters supported are up to one (1) cluster for SSP Silver tier, up to two (2) clusters for SSP Gold tier, and up to five (5) clusters for SSP Platinum tier unless otherwise noted on the Order Schedule.
  • The Designated Solutions Architect engagement level is based on the tier:
    • Silver: monthly office hours and deep-dive assistance a few times per month
    • Gold: monthly office hours and deep-dive assistance multiple times per month or a few small projects annually
    • Platinum: weekly office hours and deep-dive assistance multiple times per week or several medium projects annually
  • Additional Service Packages or Consulting Days can be purchased through the duration of the SSP at a discount from published list price as follows:
    • Silver Tier (5%)
    • Gold Tier (10%)
    • Platinum Tier (15%)

Additional Terms

  • Except as explicitly stated in an Order Schedule, the SSP Package subscription shall begin upon the signature date of Customer’s Order Schedule and will be available for twelve (12) months (the “Term”).
  • Upon expiration of the Term, Customer’s SSP Package subscription shall expire and all services provided under the SSP Package shall cease.  There will be no refund or credit of any pre-paid fees.
  • While DataStax will use commercially reasonable efforts to provide the recommendations and consultations within the Term, no guarantee is provided with respect to the completion or of any specific milestones or deliverables.  Notwithstanding the foregoing, DataStax shall work in good faith with Customer to provide any necessary recommendations within the Term and prioritize any business-critical deadlines made  known to DataStax by Customer.
  • Unless otherwise agreed in the applicable Order Schedule, all SSP Package services will be delivered remotely.
  • The DataStax professional working day is eight hours, including reasonable time for meals.  DataStax expects that Customer personnel are available during normal working hours
  • See the DataStax Services Terms (the “Services Terms”) for additional terms and conditions relating to DataStax Services.  To the extent there is a conflict between the Services Terms, applicable Order Schedule or these SSP Package terms, the terms will control in the following order:  (1) the SSP Package terms; (2) the applicable Order Schedule; (3) the Services Terms.
  • DataStax recommendations and content will be tailored based upon the information received from the Customer. Changes in Customer’s project scope, errors or omissions in provided data points, or similar discrepancies in the information received by DataStax may result in recommendations that will not best fit the Customer’s needs.
  • For the avoidance of doubt, the recommendations and goals stated above are for Customer informational purposes only.
  • Any software that is provided or recommended by DataStax professionals as part of the SSP Package that is under an open source license is provided on an AS IS basis and is subject to the terms of such open-source license.

DataStax On Demand Expert Services is a credit-based service that provides direct access to DataStax solution architects. You can choose from a predefined catalog of services for Astra or DSE / Luna (OSS Cassandra) to receive the expert assistance you need quickly and efficiently.

How It Works

Access to On Demand Expert Services is determined by the number of credits included in your Order Schedule. Credits are decremented from your account based on the credit cost of the specific services. An exhaustive list of available services are included in the Service Catalog for each product:

How to Access the Service

On Demand Expert Services are requested by navigating to the DataStax Customer Support Portal and creating an On Demand Expert Services request. On Demand Expert Services are scheduled and handled by a team of remote DataStax Solution Architects, and as such, it is not generally possible to request a specific solution architect to complete a given service. We typically expect to respond to most requests within 1-3 business days. On Demand Expert Services are available during standard business hours (9 am-5 pm), Monday through Friday in the time zone of the customer’s main operations. All On Demand Expert Services are delivered in English unless agreed otherwise. 


Customer Responsibilities

Customer will:

  • Initiate an on Demand Expert Services request via the DataStax Customer Support Portal
  • Provide contact information for a designated person from Customer’s staff who will be readily available as a point of contact for each On Demand Expert Services request, and is authorized to grant all approvals and provide necessary information
  • Assist DataStax in facilitating the delivery of the On Demand Expert Services Request;

DataStax Enterprise (DSE) Services Packages

DSE QuickStart

The DSE QuickStart Package includes up to 20 consulting days to carry out the following Services designed for creating a solid implementation plan for a Customer's data modernization strategy on DataStax Enterprise. This Services Package expires 180 days from the purchase date.The following covers one Application or set of microservices (Max 5).

  • On-Boarding and Kickoff with the DataStax Team
    • Introduction to DataStax Enterprise Success Team
    • Communication of overall goals and expectations
    • Overview of the enterprise, it's business, technology context and data needs
    • Discussion of project scope and requirements
    • Goal: Clear articulation and understanding of how DataStax Services will be delivered
  • Architecture Design/Review
    • A high level review of the expected feature usage
    • Hardware review to determine if the Customer’s hardware is appropriate for their required workload or make appropriate recommendations
    • For the given use case review or assist with the design of the following:
      • System architecture
      • DSE topology definition
      • Data center deployment
      • Number of nodes per data center
      • Racks awareness
      • vnodes configuration
    • Data model workshop: deep dive on 2 tables.
    • Security options: authentication and authorization
    • Goal:  Validation of high level architecture against the project scope identified in the On-Boarding and Kickoff
  • Development Foundations
    • Driver setup: driver version, workload configuration, driver configuration best practices.

  • Hands on installation and configuration  of DSE and associated software under the guidance of a DataStax consultant
  • Commit to ensuring appropriate stakeholders are present and able to contribute at scheduled meetings

Dependencies

The following are Customer requirements for the Services. If Customer does not provide timely responses and access as indicated below, the time allotted for delivering the Services shall not be extended

  • All critical prerequisites for which Customer is responsible shall be met at the start of the project
  • Customer shall provide timely access to the log files and other diagnostic reports
  • Customer will ensure that personnel with appropriate skills and experience are available to meet with DataStax as reasonably necessary
  • Customer will provide timely responses to DataStax inquiries from knowledgeable personnel in timeframes that do not impact the schedule

DSE Launchpad

The DataStax Launchpad Package includes up to 10 consulting days to carry out the following Services designed for creating a solid implementation plan for a Customer's data modernization strategy on DataStax Enterprise (DSE). This Services Package expires 180 days from the purchase date.

Launchpad Planning Package Scope

  • On-boarding and kickoff with the DataStax team
    • Introduction to DataStax Services team
    • In collaboration define overall goals and expectations
    • Investigate the Customer’s data needs
    • Joint discussion of scope and requirements
    • Goal: Clear articulation and understanding of how DataStax Services will be delivered
  • Planning the Data Modernization approach
    • DataStax to host a workshop to discuss all lifecycle phases and use case success. The workshop will cover up to 3 use cases.
    • DataStax will develop a strategy document to detail: High level phases for each use case implementation, training recommendations, technology best practices (such as streaming or kubernetes), and recommended milestones
    • Goal: Data modernization strategy document
  • Enabling your team through Training
    • Relevant self-paced DataStax Academy classes identified, curriculum provided to the enterprise
    • Targeted coaching sessions provided by our Architects to reinforce topics as needed and as time allows
    • One 3-day instructor led training for Customer’s employees on installation, configuration and operations related to DSE.
    • Goal: Customer staff comfortable and confident with DataStax Enterprise architectural topics relevant to their use cases

DSE SpringBoard

The DataStax DSE Springboard Package includes up to 70 consulting days to carry out the following Services designed for preparing, running and delivering the first application running on DataStax Enterprise (DSE) via our Springboard methodology. This Service Package expires 180 days from purchase date.

Springboard Package Scope

  • Week One Preparation
    • A DataStax Engagement Manager will assist in launching the Springboard project and work with the Customer to create a project charter that would include the following:
      • Identify business outcomes
      • Discover Customer application use cases and associated non-functional requirements
      • Design application architecture
      • Facilitate competing design ideas and solutions
    • Coordination of base level DSE developer training for the development team via the DataStax academy and ‘ask me anything’ session run by technical consultants
    • Collaboration with Customer to validate the install platform
    • Assist with the installation of DSE clusters on the target hardware
    • Goal: Installed DSE, base level of developer training completed, Springboard project planned and ready to go.
  • Design Sprint (a 5 working day period). In collaboration with the Customer, DataStax will carry out the following activities
    • Review of the overall system architecture stack and see where DSE fits with a focus on data flow.
    • Review the use case: type of data, payload size, expected throughput per dataset, data retention, replication factor, consistency requirement
    • Identify potential application candidates for the springboard approach
    • Review application candidates for ROI and suitability for rapid development
    • Iterate on high level designs and create a data model of the preferred candidate
    • Define major application components
    • Goal: choose a candidate application to develop, along with estimates of the development effort for those components and an execution plan for the tasks needed
  • Development Sprints (2-3 x 10 working day periods). In collaboration with the Customer, DataStax will carry out the following activities
    • Assist the Customer team on DSE-specific data modeling and code development
    • Define required integrations
    • Set up load tests (NoSQL Bench)
    • Demonstrate, test and receive feedback at the end of each 5 day sprint on the evolving MVP.
    • Goal: refine the data model and application.
  • Production Ready
    • Provide best practices around:
      • Capacity planning
      • Fault tolerance planning
      • Backup and restores
      • Monitoring and alerting
    • Assist with setting up DataStax OpsCenter
    • Goal: First application running on DSE in pre-production ready to migrate into production
  • Engagement Management
    • Facilitate the design sprint sessions
    • Facilitate Stakeholder updates / MVP reviews
    • Capture and clarify the goals, timelines, risks, and logistics of the Application
    • Create and manage the backlog of tasks
    • Manage progress against plan
    • Manage issues, risks, and provide mitigation actions
    • Map business objectives to technical requirements

 

Customer Responsibilities and Dependencies

  • Assist with all joint activities as outlined in the scope
  • Provide, install and configure any required middleware (Spark, Kafka etc)
  • Configure and run any required data load and transformation scripts
  • Perform end to end tests
  • All parties are open and transparent about any expected resource constraints
  • Full disclosure of any known operational issues
  • Customer stakeholders have the necessary authority to make decisions

Dependencies

The following are Customer requirements for the Services. If Customer does not provide timely responses and access as indicated below, the time allotted for delivering the Services shall not be extended

  • All critical prerequisites for which Customer is responsible shall be met at the start of the project
  • Customer shall provide timely access to the log files and other diagnostic reports
  • Customer shall provide access to the infrastructure
  • Infrastructure will be as per the recommendation based on supported configurations in the  product Documentation
  • The MVP is not for a live migration

Additional Terms

  • Any application code provided as part of this package is: (a) provided independently of any other project or relationship with Customer;  (ii) provided as-is and for educational purposes only; and (iii) provided without warranty or support.
  • DataStax excludes any and all liability with respect to any provided application code.
  • The application code is licensed to Customer for internal use and shall not be transferred or re-licensed without DataStax’ prior written consent.

DSE Architecture Deep Dive

The DSE Architecture Deep Dive Package includes up to 15 consulting days to carry out the following activities. DataStax will provide detailed guidance and best practices recommendations for application architecture, hardware design, network design, and security design through a series of workshops to ensure your architecture is right-sized to meet your enterprise’s current and future business needs. Additionally, our architects will provide the Customer with the enablement necessary to confidently design and implement your data platform architecture through self paced learning and targeted coaching sessions to become self-sufficient with operating and managing Customer’s use of DataStax Enterprise (DSE). This Service Package expires 180 days from purchase date.

 

DSE Architecture Deep Dive Scope

  • Architectural Strategy Sessions
    • 4 x 4-hour architecture meetings between Customer and DataStax to discuss the topics listed:
      • Enterprise architecture and integration prerequisites and requirements (e.g. - throughput, security, access and authorization, latency, recovery)
      • Customer hybrid cloud and infrastructure-as-a-service strategy across on-premises, co-location, and/or public cloud provider
      • Hot, cold, and archive storage strategies for supported use cases
    • Goal: Architectural transformation outcomes defined, and understood to assist DataStax and Customer in creating the reference architecture document
  • Develop DataStax Enterprise reference architecture artifact for a single architecture with up to 2 use cases:
    • Infrastructure and enterprise architecture prerequisites (to include security)
    • User roles and authorizations
    • Hot, cold, and archive storage strategies
    • Backup and recovery strategies
    • Disaster avoidance, global data center (DC) design, and hybrid cloud recommendations
    • Conduct knowledge transfer of the customer’s DSE reference architecture
    • Goal: A delivered reference architecture document providing clear best practice guidance for Customer’s  use case and the architectural needs
  • Provide targeted coaching sessions, if needed, with Customer personnel to reinforce topics covered in DataStax Academy classes and apply topics to the Customer’s specific environment
    • DataStax will recommend up to 6 DataStax Academy classes,  with each class relevant to DSE architecture and the enterprise use cases
    • Targeted coaching sessions provided by our Architects to reinforce topics as needed and as time allows

DSE Operational Deep Dive Package

The DataStax Operational Deep Dive Package includes up to 15 consulting days to carry out the following Services designed for detailed guidance and best practices recommendations for hardware selection, architecture, design, code, operations and automation for two environments (e.g. pre-production and production). This Service Package expires 180 days from purchase date.

Operational Deep Dive Package Scope

  • Perform implementation support for the use case components
    • Assist with deployment of pre-production and production DataStax Enterprise (DSE) clusters
    • Assist with the configuration and testing of integrations with DSE and OpsCenter
    • Assist with platform operations validation
    • In collaboration with Customer review DSE implementation and operations for alignment with architecture review and requirements
    • Goal: Deployment of DSE with the use case in the Customer’s production environment, including the ability to handle requests.
  • Develop Customer DSE operational runbook based on the Customer’s reference architecture
    • DataStax to review and provide recommendations for the operation procedures such as backups, upgrades, fault tolerance, performance metrics monitoring, and alerting for the existing DSE environments
    • Datastax to recommend appropriate key performance metrics, day-to-day monitoring of critical activities, and alert thresholds
    • Datastax to provide guidance, best practices, plans, procedures, and/or code samples for scripts on the DSE operational strategy. Code samples are provided for internal use by Customer and are provided AS IS.
    • DataStax to provide detailed strategies for backups and restores
    • Goal: Operational runbook detailing the processes and procedures necessary to for SREs to provide maintenance and upkeep of the use case
  • Provide targeted coaching sessions, if needed, with Customer personnel to reinforce topics covered in DataStax Academy classes and apply topics to the client’s specific environment
    • DataStax to identify and provide relevant self-paced DataStax Academy classes
    • Targeted coaching sessions provided by our Architects to reinforce topics as needed and as time allows

DSE Data Model Deep Dive

The DataStax Data Model Deep Dive includes up to 15 consulting days to carry out the following Services designed for creating a scalable data model and enhancing your team’s knowledge  to evolve the model over time as your use cases and business needs change. This Services Package is limited to one use case and expires 180 days from purchase date.

Data Modeling Deep Dive Package Scope

  • Data Modeling Workshop
    • In collaboration with Customer develop, review, and validate technical use cases to include query patterns, and concurrency requirements
    • Assist with the development of DataStax Enterprise (DSE) data models for each application to include specific table/key structures
    • Assist with the development of DSE table/key structure for events, aggregates, and snapshots
    • Assist with the DSE design for appropriate separation of clusters, keyspaces within same cluster, tables within the same keyspace, clustering columns within same table
    • Advise on the sizing, replication, and capacity strategies for clusters and data centers distributed globally based on application query patterns
    • Goal: Data modeling document describing all of the above listed components for a single use case
  • Application Data Integration Workshop
    • Assist with the driver setup: driver version, workload configuration , driver configuration best practices.
    • DataStax will  provide best practice guidance for the following as applicable: creating data access objects (DAO) statements (prepared, predicates, QueryBuilder), object mapping, and synchronous vs. asynchronous programming vs. reactive programming.
    • Goal: Customer development team capable and comfortable with integrating data applications with DSE
  • Provide targeted coaching sessions, if needed, with Customer personnel to reinforce topics covered in DataStax Academy classes and apply topics to the Customer’s specific environment

DSE Performance Tuning

The DSE Performance Tuning Package includes up to 13 consulting days to carry out the following activities. DataStax will perform a deep-dive assessment of one DataStax Enterprise (DSE) Cluster to ascertain the overall performance and cluster health. DataStax will develop a series of scripts which will simulate the creation of the current data model, initial data upload, workload testing and cluster sizing for the databases listed in the following section. These scripts will be customized from current DataStax scripts for each database and may be easily modified to be used for an extended period of time. This Service Package expires 180 days from purchase date.

DSE Performance Tuning Scope

  • Deep dive health check for 1 cluster
    • Perform a deep dive assessment of the DSE Cluster, gathering architectural, demographic, and usage parameters
    • Analyze the gathered assessment metadata to generate a list of improvement recommendations with instructions on how to implement each recommendation.
    • Goal: In depth review with the Customer, describing the cluster health and performance along with detailed recommendations for any applicable improvement
  • Stress testing of up to 2 tables from the cluster used for the health check
    • Analyze selected tables to determine throughput statistics and patterns
    • Generate scripts to create custom cluster and keyspace creation
    • Generate scripts to produce initial state load for testing
    • Generate scripts to simulate scenario based workloads
    • Execute workload scripts to establish a baseline
    • Conduct knowledge transfer of stress test execution and customization
    • Goal: Baseline stress testing results; general scripts and implementation guidance; Customer has the  ability to create customized scenarios for independent testing

DSE Dojo

The DSE Dojo packages include up to 30 consulting days for the Program Dojo package and up to 55 consulting days for the Project Dojo package to carry out the following activities. DataStax provides a well thought-out approach to the development of a sustainable modern data platform approach in the form of a DataStax Dojo Services offering, to create sustained learning momentum for developers, architects, and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), which increases self-sufficiency and builds product champions within your organization. The Program Dojo package expires 180 days from purchase date, and the Project Dojo package expires 365 days from purchase date.

DSE Dojo Scope

  • Dojo Kickoff
    • 1 day session with the following high level agenda:
      • Alignment of organizational development and operations objectives
      • Identification of core group of champions and stakeholders for Customer
      • Development of an execution plan
      • Communication strategy to launch the Dojo to the Customer Developers, Architects, and SREs
    • Goal: Dojo  outcomes defined, measured, understood, and documented
  • Bi-weekly Office Hours
    • 2 hour sessions for Developers, Architects, and SREs to ask DataStax Product related questions to a DataStax Architect
    • Sessions occur in accordance with a fixed schedule
    • Goal: Rapid response to questions and concerns related to data platform and enterprise topics
  • Monthly Workshops
    • 4 hour targeted sessions for Developers, Architects, and SREs to discuss an agreed upon topic

  • Quarterly Dojo Checkpoint
    • Scheduled to occur on months 3 and 6 of execution for the Program Dojo

      • Organizational development progress
      • Review achievements

The DataStax Astra DB Migration Package expires 180 days from the purchase date.

Astra Migration Package Scope

  • Planning and Assessment - Plan the overall migration approach including
    • Project structure (role and responsibilities, deliverables, sign off procedures)
    • Detailed review of applications and data models
    • Collaboration to determine migration methods (live or offline) and how to migrate historical data
    • Assist Customer in assessing source clusters and network
    • Assist Customer in establishing test criteria for migrated databases
    • Goal: Documented migration approach including details of performed assessment(s)
  • Preparation and Testing - Establish all the tools and target environments
    • Assist Customer in creating the Astra DB databases
    • Assist Customer in establishing network connectivity
    • Provide migration tools and assist Customer to set up and test migration tools for live and historical data
    • Assist Customer in modifying any client applications to access live proxy
    • Goal: Astra DB database accessible and able to run agreed upon connectivity tests
  • Execution - All tools and applications have been modified, and data is being migrated from the source instance to Astra DB in accordance with the agreed plan
    • Customer validates that the real-time requests are routed to both clusters via the proxy (applicable for live migrations)
    • Customer migrates historical data  via DSBulk or Spark Migrator
    • Assist the Customer to verify data migration and monitor new Astra DB cluster
    • Goal: Target data migrated to Astra DB
  • Post Migration Review - decommission the migration tools
    • Assist Customer with row count validations for each table with DSBulk
    • Assist Customer with full data comparison using cassandra-diff
    • Disable the migration proxy
    • Goal: All agreed workloads fully migrated to Astra DB in accordance with the agreed plan
  • Documentation and Training
    • Training provided on the fundamentals of Astra as applicable.

  • Install and run Apache Spark™ if needed for the offline migration

  • Migration Package is limited to 5 applications / microservices (a client process that connects to a cluster through the native protocol usually using a Datastax driver) and 2 environments.

Astra DB SpringBoard

The DataStax Astra DB Springboard Package includes up to 60 consulting days to carry out the following Services designed for preparing, running and delivering the first application running on DataStax Astra DB via our Springboard methodology. This Service Package expires 180 days from purchase date.

Springboard Package Scope

  • Week One Preparation
    • A DataStax Engagement Manager will assist in launching the Springboard project and work with the Customer to create a project charter that would include the following:
      • Identify business outcomes
      • Discover Customer application use cases and associated non-functional requirements
      • Design application architecture
      • Facilitate competing design ideas and solutions
    • Coordination of base level Astra DB developer training for the development team via the DataStax academy and ‘ask me anything’ session run by technical consultants
    • Create Astra DB database.
    • Create appropriate organisations, users and roles.
    • Goal: Customer applications able to connect to Astra DB and execute requests,  base level of developer training completed, Springboard project planned and ready to go.
  • Design Sprint (a 5 working day period). In collaboration with the Customer, DataStax will carry out the following activities
    • Review of the overall system architecture stack and see where Astra DB fits with a focus on data flow.
    • Review the use case: type of data, payload size, expected throughput per dataset, data retention, replication factor, consistency requirement
    • Identify potential application candidates for the springboard approach
    • Review application candidates for ROI and suitability for rapid development
    • Iterate on high level designs and create a data model of the preferred candidate
    • Define major application components
    • Goal: choose a candidate application to develop, along with estimates of the development effort for those components and an execution plan for the tasks needed
  • Development Sprints. In collaboration with the Customer, DataStax will carry out the following activities
    • Assist the Customer team on the data modeling and application development

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all joint activities as outlined in the scope

  • Perform end to end tests
  • All parties are open and transparent about any expected resource constraints
  • Customer stakeholders have the necessary authority to make decisions

 

Dependencies

The following are Customer requirements for the Services. If Customer does not provide timely responses and access as indicated below, the time allotted for delivering the Services shall not be extended

  • All critical prerequisites for which Customer is responsible shall be met at the start of the project
  • Customer shall provide timely access to the log files and other diagnostic reports
  • Customer shall provide the required accessibility to their Astra DB Database
  • Customer will procure sufficient Astra DB credits in order to facilitate any required data transfers and workloads as part of the engagement
  • The MVP is not for a live migration
  • Customer shall provide resources to develop the application
  • Architect team will be provided to assist DataStax team members with required information to complete engagement tasks.
  • There will be no change in project priorities impacting the allocated resources or supporting resources
  • Customer will ensure that personnel with appropriate skills and experience are available to meet with DataStax as reasonably necessary
  • Customer will provide timely responses to DataStax inquiries from knowledgeable personnel in timeframes that do not impact the schedule
  • There will be no change in project priorities impacting the allocated resources or supporting resources
  • An agreed-upon high-level application architecture and approach, without changes after the Design Sprint Phase
  • The application can be developed within the time frame in accordance with best practice

 

Additional Terms

  • Any application code provided as part of this package is: (a) provided independently of any other project or relationship with Customer;  (ii) provided as-is and for educational purposes only; and (iii) provided without warranty or support.
  • DataStax excludes any and all liability with respect to any provided application code.
  • The application code is licensed to Customer for internal use and shall not be transferred or re-licensed without DataStax’ prior written consent.

 

DataStax Luna Packages

Luna Essentials Diagnostics and HealthCheck

The Luna Essentials Diagnostics and HealthCheck Package includes up to 3 consulting days to carry out the following Services for a complete diagnostic scan of your cluster to help troubleshoot and improve your open-source Apache Cassandra® configuration. This Services package expires 180 days from the purchase date.

Luna Essentials Scope

  • Schema Exchange: We ask you to send the CQL schema for your keyspace and a brief description of the most important tables and how they are used in the application. We use this information for our kick-off meeting.
  • Kick-off Meeting: Our two teams get together on a video call to meet each other and discuss the application and your schema in more detail.
  • Collector Delivery: We provide you with a copy of our collector script via a Jira ticket, which will gather information from your nodes which you can send back to DataStax for analysis. Customer should review the diagnostic log before sending to ensure no sensitive or personal information is included.
  • Running the Collector: Your team runs our collector script against your cluster.
  • Analysis: DataStax OSC consultants analyze your data with both automated tools and manual analysis. The team will create a report that provides a full diagnostic summary of your cluster. To support our analysis, we may ask followup questions via email, Jira, or video calls.
  • Report Delivery: We send you the report and arrange a follow-up meeting.
  • Client Review: Your team reviews the document within 48 hours and compiles a list of questions and possible next steps.
  • Summary of Findings Presentation: The two teams get together on a video call to discuss our key findings, recommendations, and how they will help your clusters. We will drill into the most critical areas of the report and address any questions that came up during your review.
  • Provide recommendations on how to triage any remediation work: If there are recommendations that your team needs assistance implementing, we can recommend the follow on work and schedule additional time to address through additional Consulting Days.
  • Goals: Reduced risk of an unstable cluster due to inaccurate configuration or incorrect hardware, Reduced immediate and future scaling risks,Increase in your operational team’s confidence by arming them with best practices

 

Customer Responsibilities and Dependencies

Responsibilities

  • Hands on activities with the open-source Apache Cassandra database under the guidance of a DataStax consultant
  • Provide details of the application/services and CQL schema.
  • Running the diagnostics collection scripts and send the results to DataStax
  • Share project/programme/platform goals and provide Customer’s measurable success criteria
  • Commit to self paced training
  • Implementing any suggested recommendations is the Customers responsibility

Prepaid Consulting Days (T&M Services)

Once Customer has purchased its designated prepaid service days, the DataStax services team will engage with Customer to define the activities as mutually agreed upon between DataStax and Customer.  The activities during the Services days may include as an example one or more of the following:

  • Assisting Customer with DataStax related product installation and configuration
  • Assisting in the definition and design of the logical architecture of DataStax Products
  • Providing guidance on data models
  • Assisting with the deployment and operation of production and development environments
  • Assisting Customer with configuration and management tools where applicable
  • Assisting with the design and execution of appropriate load and performance tests
  • Recommend appropriate key performance metrics and alert thresholds
  • Advise on Datastax best practices relating to DataStax Products, tools or agreed upon related open-source projects
  • Assist with capacity planning relating to DataStax Products, tools or agreed upon related open-source projects
  • Application design review
  • Proactive identification and mitigation of project risk areas
  • Reviewing performance optimization techniques
  • Provide advice and hand-holding through the Datastax academy pre-recorded courses
  • Provide coaching/training on topics relating to DataStax Products

 

Additional Terms For All Service Packages

  • This is a pre-paid non-cancellable offering
  • If the Customer requires additional consulting days to cover other services outside the scope of the applicable package, other consulting services will be available  to purchase via a separate Order Schedule.
  • Services will be delivered remotely.
  • The DataStax professional working day is eight hours, including reasonable time for meals.  DataStax expects that Customer personnel are available during normal working hours
  • The packages are for the Services listed therein only. Customers are required to have a separate license for their use of DataStax Enterprise and/or their access to DataStax Astra.
  • DataStax recommendations and content will be tailored based upon the information received from the Customer. Changes in Customer’s project scope, errors or omissions in provided data points, or similar discrepancies in the information received by DataStax may result in recommendations that will not best fit the Customer’s needs.
  • For the avoidance of doubt, the goals stated above are for Customer informational purposes only.
  • Any software that is provided or recommended by DataStax professionals as part of the Services that is under an open source license is provided on an AS IS basis and is subject to the terms of such open-source license.
  • For T&M based services, notwithstanding any other provisions, the Services shall not include any application or code development. Further, while DataStax will make the appropriate recommendations with the information then-available, DataStax cannot make any performance guarantees. DataStax cannot guarantee that all of the recommendations can be completed during the time allotted but will complete as many of the recommendations as time permits. DataStax will provide a separate proposal for any additional time required to complete the outstanding tasks.
