Who Is Bodi?
BoDi, whose name derives from "born digital,” is our mascot: a whimsical winged rhinoceros created deep inside a multi-modal large language model.
Why a rhino?
When DataStax was founded by Jonathan Ellis and Matt Pfeil in 2010 (we were called Riptano back then), a rhinoceros was chosen as our logo because they’re powerful, much like the Apache Cassandra® database that we built our business on (also, rhino starts with “r” – like our previous corporate name!).
OK, but why a chameleonic, multi-colored flying rhino?
Today, Bodi is more than a mere pachyderm. For one thing, Bodi has wings! They’re a symbol of the power and speed of what the DataStax AI platform has to offer, but also, as Bodi is AI generated, they’re a nod to our focus on generative AI.
The fact that Bodi is a fanciful creature also imparts a degree of fun and accessibility. After all, the DataStax AI PaaS is built to make the often-challenging process of getting GenAI applications to production more approachable for developers. Plus, Bodi looks great on a tee-shirt :)
Bodi is everywhere!
Not only does Bodi appear on all kinds of DataStax swag, you might even spot them floating above you as you drive down the highway in the San Francisco Bay Area!
