Apache Cassandra vs Other Cloud Databases | DataStax

Big Data & Data Science in the Cloud session: Apache Cassandra versus Cloud Databases

The presentation, targeted to data architects, will speak to the ways Apache Cassandra remains a relevant database management system after its recent tenth anniversary. Discussion will cover Cassandra’s strengths and weaknesses relative to Amazon DynamoDB, Microsoft CosmosDB and Google Cloud Spanner and cover the trade-offs they make for the CAP theorem, the data model they expose, how they handle cross-region replication and the consistency guarantees they offer.

Ellis will provide a brief overview of the architecture of each system, either published or inferred, and the implications those have for their suitability for different workloads. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the unique features of each system and knowledge of which ones their company should prioritize for infrastructure investment.
