Introducing the DataStax Sandbox

I’m pleased to announce the DataStax Sandbox, which is a virtual machine (VM) image that contains a Linux-based bundle of DataStax software – DataStax Enterprise (DSE), OpsCenter, DevCenter, and a number of easy to use utilities – that’s designed to make it simple for you to get up to speed quickly with DataStax software.

All you have to do is download the Sandbox, load it into your VMware or Oracle Virtualbox player, and you instantly have a full running copy of DataStax software to try. No installation, configuration, etc., is necessary.

You can immediately start writing CQL queries with DevCenter and the CQL utility, monitor Cassandra with OpsCenter, and try out our DSE analytics and enterprise search demos. A guided tutorial walks you through each of these exercises in step-by-step fashion.

The DataStax Sandbox isn’t designed for production installs and has just a few prerequisites for use (e.g. 8GB of RAM, etc.) It’s available for you to download now and is completely free to use for as long as you’d like.

If you’ve not tried DataStax software yet, I encourage you to download and try out the DataStax Sandbox now. And if you have suggestions for improving the Sandbox, don’t hesitate to contact us at sandbox@datastax.com.
