DataStax Joins the Cloud Native Computing Foundation

We’re happy to announce that DataStax is a new member of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), an organization that builds sustainable ecosystems for cloud-native open-source software. 

With this new partnership we will collaborate more closely with the thriving landscape of CNCF communities and broaden our integrations with CNCF projects in an increasingly hybrid cloud-driven, cloud-native data world.

We believe that Apache CassandraTM will be the standard database for scale-out data moving forward. To make it as easy as possible to use Cassandra with the de-facto standard for managing containerized workloads, Kubernetes, we recently open-sourced our version of a Kubernetes Operator for Cassandra and will work with the Cassandra community on their single, open-source, project-backed Kubernetes operator. 

Sam Ramji, DataStax’s Chief Strategy Officer, believes that wherever Kubernetes goes, Cassandra needs to follow. We know Kubernetes is changing the world and that Cassandra is one of the most proven open-source, scale-out databases. Using them together is the way to build modern, cloud-scale applications. Based on the feedback from many people in our community, we see that the future is cloud-native and that’s why we are building DataStax Astra (currently in BETA), which provides the ability to develop and deploy data-driven applications with a cloud-native service powered by Cassandra—without the hassles traditionally associated with database and infrastructure administration. 

Our DataStax Enterprise product also integrates with Prometheus, a CNCF project, for database metric collection and reporting.

Our mission is to connect every developer in the world to the power of Cassandra, with the freedom to run their data on any device and in any cloud. We are beyond excited to serve and work with the CNCF communities and the Cassandra community on this collective journey.
